Deliverability
Rescue.

Blocklisted. Rejected en masse. ESP account suspended. Migraines. Let's talk about it.

The call usually starts with one of these.

Different symptoms, different root causes. Same revenue walking out the door while you figure out which one it is.

01

You landed on Spamhaus.

SBL, CSS, DBL, or XBL, it's all not a good sign. Your mail's bouncing at every receiver that uses Spamhaus data, which is most of them. The listing happened for a reason, and that has to get addressed before anyone will delist you.

02

Gmail is sending you to spam at scale.

Postmaster Tools shows a reputation drop, your open rates fell off a cliff, or Gmail started rejecting outright with a 550 pointing you at their bulk sender guidelines. Something you're doing crossed a threshold.

03

Your ESP suspended the account.

You logged in to a notice from your sending platform's compliance team. They want answers, they want them in writing, and until they get them you can't send a single message. The clock is ticking.

04

Microsoft stopped delivering.

Outlook, Hotmail, Live, and Office 365 share a reputation layer that's slow to recover and quieter than Gmail about what went wrong. You need someone who can read SNDS, look at it against your data, and make informed decisions, fast.

A rescue runs in 3 phases.

How long it takes depends on how deep the hole is and who's mad about it. I can figure that out. You leave with a prevention plan so you don't land back on the list.

First

Diagnose

The symptom isn't the cause. The first phase is about not confusing the two.

I read your headers, your bounce logs, your authentication records, and your Postmaster Tools and SNDS data. The listing or the rejection is the symptom, but the cause is almost always upstream: a list source, an acquisition change, an authentication misconfiguration, or a sending practice that drifted. I'll help you figure out what's causing the problem and how to fix it.

Then

Remediate

Let's put out the fire.

I clean up the list sources, fix the sending practices, and write the remediation case for Spamhaus, your ESP's compliance team, or the mailbox provider in question. These are documents I have written hundreds of times. I speak the language the people reading them already use.

Finally

Harden

We make sure this doesn't recur.

I document what caused the fire, write the prevention plan, and set up the monitoring that would've caught it earlier. You leave with a program that's harder to break and a document your team can act on without me in the room.

A recent rescue

We initially hired Skyler to fix a Gmail inbox placement problem, and she wound up tackling the bigger issue underneath: a Spamhaus listing that was causing the majority of our problems.

Skyler was in our data from day 1, and she was relentless in the best possible way. Every time we got a vague answer, she kept pulling on that thread until she found something concrete she could actually fix. Any time something came up, she was already on it.

About a month after we brought her in, our domain was off the blocklist with its reputation fully reset, and our Gmail spam rate had dropped under Google's warning line for the first time. If your email program is in trouble, she's the first person I'd call.

Skyler Holobach

I'm Skyler Holobach.

I spent 7 years at Salesforce building compliance and trust infrastructure for one of the largest email senders in the world. During that stretch, I was the escalation point for ISP abuse desks and Spamhaus, which means I have spent years working the exact conversations your ESP is now trying to have on your behalf.

I speak at M3AAWG and Unspam, I sit on the board of Women of Email, and I have written the remediation cases that get senders unlisted. Threadsmith Group is where I bring that work directly to companies whose email programs have gone sideways.

When your program is broken and the clock is running, I'm the person you want reading the headers, writing the remediation case, and translating between your team and your ESP's compliance desk.

A ground rule.

I don't work with cold outreach platforms or any product whose revenue model depends on sending unsolicited email. I've spent years cleaning up the mess those platforms make for every honest sender who shares an IP neighborhood with them. I'm not going to help build another one.
